8These are the names of the mighty men who sat with David in the Sabbath of Tachkemoni | the head of the three. He is Adino the Eznite, over eight hundred slain at once.9And after him Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite among the three mighty ones with David when they defied the Philistines who had assembled there for battle, and the men of Israel went up.10He rose and struck the Philistines until his hand grew weary, and his hand clung to the sword, and he made a great salvation on that day, and the people returned after him only to strip.11And after him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines gathered at the wild animal, and there was there a portion of the field full of lentils, and the people fled from the presence of the Philistines.12And he took his stand in the midst of the portion and saved it and struck the Philistines, and the LORD made a great salvation.13And three of the thirty chiefs went down and came to David at harvest time in the cave of Adullam, and the Philistine army was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.14David was then in the stronghold, and a garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.15He desired it and said, "Who will give me a drink of water from the well of the house of Bread that is at the gate?"16They broke through the Philistines’ camp, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, carried it, and brought it to David. But he would not drink it; he poured it out to the LORD.17And he said, "Far be it to me from the LORD to do this, the blood of the men who went with their vital life force, and he was not willing to drink them." These things the three fighting men did.18And Abishai, brother of Joab son of Zeruiah—he was head of the three. And he aroused his spear upon three hundreds slain, and he had a name among the three.19He was the most honored of the three, and he was their chief, but he did not come to the three.20Benaiah son of Jehoiada, son of a valiant man, many deeds from Kabzeel; he struck down two ariels of Moab, and he went down and struck the lion in the midst of the pit on a snowy day.21And he struck the Egyptian man, a man of appearance. And in the hand of the Egyptian was a spear, and he went down to him with a staff and snatched the spear from the hand of the Egyptian and killed him with his spear.22These things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did, and he had a name among the three mighty men.23He was honored among the thirty, but he did not come to the three. And David put him over his charge.24He was Adino the Eznite, brother of Joab, among the thirty; Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem.25Sheol the Hararite, Elika the Hararite.26Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite.27Abiezer the Anathothite, Hushathite of the sons of the Hushathite.28Zalmon the Ahohite, from the mountains of Netophah.29Heleb son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai son of Ribai from Gibeah of the Benjaminites.30Benaiah the Perathite of the Hadite, from the streams of Gaash.31Abi-albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite.32Eliphelet the Sha-albonite, son of Ish, Jonathan.33Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam son of Sharar the Ararite.34Eliphelet son of Ah-Asbai, son of the Maacathite, Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite.35Shimei the Ramathite, Baal the Ahohite.36Igal son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite.37Zalmon the Ahohite, Naharai the Barite, who bore the utensils of Joab son of Zeruiah.38Ira the Hittite, Gareb the Hittite.39Uriah the Hittite—all thirty-seven.
